Hasegawa Sadanobu was an artist in Osaka who was active in the late Edo period and the early Meiji period. This exquisite little print, from "One Hundred Views of Osaka" (Naniwa hyakkei no uchi), shows the Five Hundred Arhats Temple, which is also called Myotoku Temple. It is located in Ibaraki City, a section of Osaka. To reach Myotoku Temple, which is nestled in a pine forest, visitors need to cross this small bridge across a canal. This series, which has a stylistic debt to Hiroshige but is truly Sadanobu's own, greatly promoted the development of tourism in Osaka, the thriving merchant center south of Kyoto.
