Fujiwara no Sadanaga, he was forced to step aside when his master had two sons, giving him heirs. As was common practice at the time, he became a monk, and acquired the religious name of Jakuren. He traveled around the country, composing poems of his travels. In this striking design, he walks with a disciple deep in the woods, with the shafts of sunlight dramatically breaking through the thick canopy of trees.
Strong, very early impression; rich color; some soiling and thinning of paper; trimming.
