Among many subjects, Kabuki has always been a popular theme in ukiyo-e. Portrayals of Kabuki with the triptych design -- three prints that fit together -- can creat a panorama similar to a stage. These art works were just like the movie star portraits of their day, and buyers would collect images of their favorite scenes or actors.
